Our training sessions focus on four main areas of coaching:
Technical
Many technical aspects of goalkeeping are covered by a different training theme each week. Examples of themes covered are positional awareness, foot work, extension, shot stopping, high balls and 1 v 1. A key aspect of goalkeeping, which is often overlooked in other coaching programs, is a goalkeeper's ability to distribute the ball effectively, an aspect which takes high priority in EGK coaching sessions.
Tactical
Due to position on the field, the goalkeeper plays a crucial role in observing and co-ordinating team play. In order to do this effectively, good communication and organisation is vital.
Physical
An elite goalkeeper requires speed, strength, power and agility. These aspects of performance conditioning are developed throughout the training program.
Mental
The psychology behind sporting success can often make the difference between a good and elite player. An elite goalkeeper must learn the process of confident decision making, effective communication and the ability to learn from setbacks and mistakes. These skills are required in all aspects of technical, tactical and physical areas of goalkeeping, and therefore provide a consistent focus throughout the training program.
